New Scarves!

I have finally put up the latest batch of shibori dyed, silk habotai scarves on etsy in vivid colors ranging from aqua, jade, grape, fuschia, and berry! The unique texture of the scarves is what sets them apart from the masses. The beautiful ridges set into the fabric are part of the detailed creative process and are produced when the scarves are left to dry in their compressed form after dyeing. All of the scarves are hand wrapped on poles and set in a dye bath of whatever color I am feeling at the time:) The resist of the cording against the silk creates the striped two dimensional look that gives the fabric such a beautiful mix of color.

New colors will be explored soon with a new batch of scarves and a focus of even more contrast between the colors. Check back often to find more updates on products, new techniques, and new processes!

The New Perspective

As an increasingly "not so recent" graduate of Iowa State University, I have finally reached the point in my "career" search that I have decided to take matters into my own hands.  Armed with a degree in Creative Apparel Design, Merchandising, and Production, and a drive to use my creative freedom, I have finally set out to produce my own line of accessories. "The New Perspective" is my new found realization that in order to create success for myself I need to take a step toward my desired end result now. The current economy is no excuse for idleness and it took me quite awhile to realize that I had that power in the palm of my hands. How far was I going to let someone else dictate my perceived lack of opportunity before I finally realized that I possessed all of the tools for a great future right here? These are the baby steps, the basic building blocks if you will, for a new future that leaves me in charge of my own destination. "The New Perspective" offered me a new take on life, a new direction for my skills, and an open door for the opportunity of a lifetime!

Every young fashion student dreams of experiencing the fashion world at its core, hence an amazing study abroad experience in Paris, France. A mix of couture French fashion shows, exploration of the Louvre, the nightly twinkling of the Eiffel Tower, sketching in the middle of the day at the Jardin de Luxembourg whilst drinking a bottle of wine, a fairy-tale experience for a young student looking for a direction in which to pursue her dream. New processes and techniques were explored such as couture sewing techniques, speed sketching, and the unique and beautiful technique that is Shibori dyeing. Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dyeing cloth by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, or compressing it. When left to dry  in its compressed form, the fabric then maintains the intricate texture of the resist as well as the beautiful color combinations created by dyeing,  bound resist, and over-dying. This unique art form has served as the basis for my exploration of different dyeing techniques, different resists, and different textural embellishments such as felting, wiring, and hand beading to name a few.

This new direction has provided me with the basis for my designs and has become my new driving force. Please check back as I delve into the creative design process with process pictures and details, new products, new treatments, and any new happenings!
